About
Peregrines
Peregrine Falcons are ‘Schedule 1’ protected birds due to a history of persecution. There are currently approximately 1500 breeding pairs in the UK. They are one of the fastest creatures in the world and can fly at speeds in excess of 200mph. Peregrines nest on cliffs and in urban areas on tall buildings, indeed the densest population of peregrines in the world is in New York City.

Peregrines at Trinity Church
Peregrine Falcons have roosted on Trinity Church for a number of years. Currently a lone male is roosting there sporadically. Female peregrines have also visited Trinity Church over the last couple of years but as there is no suitable nesting site the birds have not bred.

The Project
We have installed a peregrine nesting tray and 2 webcams behind the parapet to provide the peregrines with a suitable nesting site and to allow the community to learn from and appreciate these iconic birds.

The Nesting Tray
The nesting tray has been constructed from plastic and timber and is situated on the walkway behind the parapet. The tray is filled with gravel as peregrines make a scrape to lay their eggs in. It has a north-easterly aspect to avoid direct sunlight which can affect egg incubation.
